620 N. Lakeside Dr.
The style of the “Bauhaus” is a simple geometric design. The house at 620 North Lakeside Drive was commissioned by Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Davis in 1938 as a 25’x 25” two story building. The architecture is called Art Moderne, which occurred a little later than Art Deco. A characteristic element of this type of architecture is the “eyebrow” above the windows.
The Davis family resided in this home for 30 years. In 1968 they sold it to the Blanchard family who then occupied it for 40 years. The Blanchard’s added a one story addition enlarging the living room and adding a bedroom with bath and a 500 square foot sundeck on the top level.
While searching for real estate in the area, it was “love at first sight” for Anna and Tony when they toured the 620 North Lakeside property. They purchased the house from Chris Stevens from WiseBuy Realty who had just added central air conditioning and impact windows. The floors are original Florida pine The tropical courtyard is now being used as a protected breakfast space. The entryway is unique because of its original mosaic floor. Anna’s fond memories of her previous home in the Virgin Islands inspired her to re-create that Caribbean flavor in her downstairs powder room.
Anna and Tony are both avid gardeners and have created and planted the current garden, adding both wooden decks and a flagstone patio. A second garage and pavers were added in accordance with the Art Moderne and Bauhaus style, replacing a concrete driveway and walkways.
