Parrot Cove Neighborhood Association is named for the flocks of green parrots nesting in our trees. Residents are an eclectic mixture with varied professional backgrounds and lifestyles who share an appreciation of old Florida. Neighborhood borders are Lucerne Avenue on the south, the golf course on the east, the south side of 13th Avenue on the north and the east side of Federal on the west. The neighborhood is almost entirely made up of single family homes, some dating from the heydays of the Florida land boom in the 1920s but most built in the next wave of Florida’s growth in the 1950s and 60s. The neighborhood is family oriented, with safe streets and no through traffic.
The neighborhood association was formed in April 2000 as a non-profit organization with the goals of providing information about a wide range of issues and serving as a way to meet one's neighbors ultimately building a strong sense of community. Everyone is welcome at the general meetings with featured speakers such as elected or City officials, experts on development, growth, real estate, schools or other with issues of interest . These meetings are scheduled at least six times a year.
Activities, beyond our general meetings include regular Parrot-In-The-Hood parties for Association members which are held in our residents' homes. We also hold special events such as block parties and, in 2010, a private tour and party hosted by the Lake Worth Playhouse. Parrot Cove marches in the local parades and participates in events such as the July 4th raft race.
We publish a newsletter six times a year, delivered to our residents' doorsteps, that includes association and community news.
The major fundraiser is an every-other-year Home and Garden Tour when residents' open their homes to visitors. Successful home tours over the years helped raise money to improve our community including tree-give aways after hurricanes, the purchase of banners designating our neighborbood and donations to local charities.
The Association has also contributed to local charities.
Regular membership dues for the calendar year are $10 for an individual and $20 for a family. Social Membership is available for anyone who wishes to join but does not live within the boundaries of Parrot Cove (dues are the same). Social members cannot vote for officers or hold office.
